Commute is a small solo-dev app for tracking your own trips.

The short version: no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and no external app servers storing your trip history.

What Commute Uses

Commute uses location data only when you start a trip.

An active trip may include:

  • Route
  • Distance
  • Duration
  • Start and end points
  • Commute mode
  • Trip history and summaries

Background location is used only so an active trip can keep recording when your phone is locked or the app is in the background.

Where Your Data Goes

Your trip data is stored on your device.

If iCloud is enabled, your trips may sync through your private iCloud database so they can appear on your devices signed into the same Apple account.

I do not run a separate server that stores your commute history.

Apple Services

Commute uses Apple services for maps, place names, location, and iCloud sync.

Those services are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.

Your Choices

You can:

  • Start or stop tracking at any time
  • Change location permission in iOS Settings
  • Disable iCloud sync in iOS Settings
  • Delete trips in the app
  • Delete the app from your device
